For Blogmas, Day 8, I decided to share a grocery haul with you guys! I did a grocery run at my go-to stores: Aldi and Kroger. I love the prices at Aldi, especially for produce. And Kroger usually has great deals and coupons as well. Plus, they are both within 5 minutes of my home.
I’ve recently started trying to do my grocery shopping once per week for two reasons: to try and not be wasteful with food that I buy, and to try and save money. Hear me out: I usually go shopping every two weeks. I make a meal plan and execute. However, sometimes, things happen. I get lazy and decide to not cook. We end up eating leftovers, or eat at my in-laws. When this happens, sometimes food can go to waste, particularly fresh produce. I typically buy fresh and frozen produce, but mostly fresh. I’ve been shopping once a week for a little over a month now, and although it can be time consuming, I think it’s helping. So, without further ado, here’s what we eat in a week!
Saturday: Smoked Chicken Wings, Macaroni and Cheese, and Grilled Vegetables (Zucchini, Mushrooms, Grape tomatoes)
Sunday– Orange Peel Chicken with rice and zucchini (although we will eat at my in-laws); so, I’ll either make this for lunch on Monday or save it for another dinner.
Monday– Potato Soup OR Leftovers
Tuesday– Pork Chops, Brussel Sprouts, and Fried Corn
Wednesday– Spaghetti with Garlic Bread
Thursday– Gumbo with shrimp and smoked sausage, and cheddar bay biscuits
Friday– I will probably go shopping again on this day.
For breakfast, we typically eat a warm breakfast of either oatmeal with toppings (i.e. dried cranberries, walnuts, syrup, fruit, etc.), eggs, sausage/bacon/salmon patties, pancakes, homemade grits or homemade buttermilk biscuits, or potatoes with peppers and onions. Lunch usually consists of leftovers from dinner, sandwiches with chips and fruit, or mini pizzas for the kids.
I may try and make some homemade apple fritters this week. Hubby mentioned wanting some, so, why not? I also have to make a sweet potato and cream cheese bundt cake, cream cheese pound cake, and pecan and cream cheese bars for a few people this week.
I make my grocery lists based off of meals that I intend to cook, as well as anything that’s running low in the house, and things I may need to bake soon. I already had the chicken wings, cheese for macaroni, zucchini, chicken breasts, corn, ground turkey, spaghetti, garlic bread, buttermilk, grits, onions, bell peppers, flour, etc.. Produce– Mushrooms, Grape Tomatoes, Oranges, Brussel Sprouts, Apples, Grapes, Bananas, Plant Based Ranch Dressing
Pantry– Macaroni, Spaghetti Sauce, Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix, Zatarain’s gumbo mix (listen, it’s good. You can make your own if you choose), Apple/Grape Juice, Onion Powder, Chili Powder, Smoked Paprika (didn’t find it), Sugar, Maple Extract, Pecans, Bread, Cheetoh Puffs, and Reduced Salt Lays (the regular ones are way too salty to me), Chocolate-drizzled caramel corn (for the hot chocolate station), Salt, 6-pk of miniature Coca-cola cans, dried cranberries, canned pink salmon, mini pizza crusts, popcorn, crackers,
Dairy– Orange Juice, Eggs, Sugar, Cream Cheese, Vanilla Almond Milk, Unsweetened Almond Milk, Butter, Margarine, Sliced Cheddar Cheese, Plant Based Cheddar Cheese
Meat– Chicken legs (on sale for $0.79 a pound), pork chops, smoked sausage, bacon, sandwich meat
Frozen– Shrimp, Chicken Nuggets (on a whim, for the kids)
Personal– Diapers, Zyrtec, Paper Towels, Toilet Tissue
I like to go grocery shopping. I love to see the money that I save by cooking at home vs. eating out, for a family of 5, too often. I enjoy cooking yummy meals, and I definitely enjoy eating.
